Service Capability
Software Development
Custom application engineering for complex business requirements — from greenfield platform builds to feature development within existing enterprise systems.
What we build
Software built for enterprise environments has different requirements from software built for startups. It needs to integrate with existing systems, comply with organisational security standards, perform reliably under load, and be maintainable by teams that weren't involved in its original construction.
Our software development practice focuses on Java and JVM-based backends, Node.js APIs and services, .NET applications, and the API layers that connect these to front-end surfaces and third-party systems.
We work on full software delivery — from architecture design through implementation, testing, and production deployment — and on augmenting in-house teams that need specific technical depth for a bounded period.
Problems we address
- — In-house teams lack capacity or specific technology depth for a critical delivery milestone
- — A new business capability requires software that doesn't fit cleanly into an existing system
- — Existing application performance or scalability is limiting business operations
- — A third-party platform needs a custom integration layer that the vendor doesn't provide
- — Prototypes or proofs-of-concept need to be rebuilt to production quality
- — Accumulated technical debt is slowing feature delivery and increasing defect rates
Capabilities
Java & Spring Boot Platform Development
Microservices, REST and gRPC APIs, batch processing, and domain-driven service design using Java 17+ and the Spring ecosystem.
Node.js API & Service Development
High-throughput API gateways, BFF (backend-for-frontend) layers, webhook integrations, and real-time services using Node.js and TypeScript.
.NET Enterprise Applications
Line-of-business applications, Windows-ecosystem integrations, and .NET 8 modernisation of legacy C# codebases.
API Design & Governance
OpenAPI specification, versioning strategy, contract testing, and developer portal documentation for internal and external-facing APIs.
Event-Driven Architecture
Kafka-backed event streaming, CQRS and event sourcing patterns, and asynchronous processing pipelines that decouple system components.
Technical Debt Remediation
Structured programs to reduce dependency coupling, improve test coverage, and resolve performance bottlenecks without pausing feature delivery.
Our approach
Architecture before code
Before a line of code is written, we model the system against the business requirements — data flows, service boundaries, failure modes, and operational characteristics. This surfaces design decisions when they're cheapest to make.
Embedded rather than handed-off
We work alongside your engineers rather than delivering code over the wall. Patterns and knowledge transfer are intentional parts of the engagement, not an afterthought.
Testability as a design constraint
We write testable code because it's better-designed code. Test coverage targets are agreed upfront. We use a layered approach — unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end — matched to the risk profile of each component.
Operational readiness built in
Structured logging, tracing, health endpoints, and graceful degradation are part of every service we deliver — not features added at the end of the sprint.
Delivery process
-
1
Technical discovery
Review of existing systems, integration points, data models, and non-functional requirements. Produces a scoping document with clear constraints and assumptions.
-
2
Architecture design
Service and data model design, API contracts, and deployment topology. Decision records for key architectural trade-offs shared with your team.
-
3
Iterative build
Two-week delivery sprints with working software and test coverage at each cadence. Regular code review with your team throughout.
-
4
Production readiness
Performance testing, security review, runbook documentation, and deployment pipeline setup before go-live.
-
5
Handover & support
Structured handover to your operations team with documentation, on-call shadowing, and a defined stabilisation window.
